Asprovalta, Northern Greece<\/h3>

The Strymonikos Gulf resort of Asprovalta currently attracts tens of thousands of tourists each summer.<\/p>

Asprovalta\u2019s\u00a011-kilometer-long sandy beach\u00a0has earned the\u00a0Blue Flag.\u00a0A wide variety of stores can be found at the market, including supermarkets and health centres as well as pharmacies and fast food restaurants.<\/span><\/p>

Asprovalta Beach<\/h3><\/header>

Asprovalta\u00a0beach is laureated by the prestigious\u00a0Blue Flag award, which is granted only to top quality beaches in the European Union.<\/p>

Besides\u00a0gold sands\u00a0and\u00a0crystal clear\u00a0water, Asprovalta Beach is surrounded by three mountains, which additionally contribute to its attractiveness.<\/p>

The beach is\u00a0200 meters wide\u00a0and a couple of kilometers longer than you got used to, which prevents overcrowding even during the peak season.<\/p>

A myriad of bars, restaurants and confectionery shops can be found along the seaside promenade, and water sports enthusiast can find a variety of water sports on this exceptional beach.<\/p>

This\u00a0Blue Flag\u00a0awarded beach is dotted with umbrellas and sun beds that can be used without a charge and the beach is exceptionally maintained.<\/p>

The restaurants offer various culinary specialties for quite reasonable prices. Besides water sports,\u00a0Asprovalta Beach\u00a0features playgrounds, courts for beach volleyball, showers and cabins.<\/p>

Monastery of Agios (St) Georgios<\/span><\/p>

The Monastery of Agios Georgios, is located in the Kerdyllia Mountains and specifically in the panorama of the area of Asprovalta.<\/p>

It is surrounded by a beautiful forest. The monastery was built in the middle of the 16th century with monastic architecture of Macedonia during the years of Ottoman rule. This architecture does not any different in design from the Byzantine era.<\/p>

The dominant architectural type is the so-called\u00a0Athonite<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Mount Athos<\/em>, cruciform inscribed, which has as its main feature, the side niches or side dances, a place intended for the dances of the chanters and the large narthex, the so-called austere.<\/p>

The central area is covered with a large cruciform dome of exceptional construction. Also in the Monastery of Agios Georgios, one can admire some of the virtues of Byzantine architecture: elaborate masonry, balanced scaling of volumes, picturesqueness in the composition.<\/p>

In the same parts of the temple there is an alternating use of belts of carved structures, with rows of bricks.<\/p>

Rentina Valley<\/h3><\/header>

The\u00a0Rentina Valley\u00a0or Macedonian Tempi is the area between the mountains of Holomontas and Kerdylia. It is a valley that starts from the west in the town of Rentina, near Lake Volvi and ends in the Strimonikos bay.<\/p>

The\u00a0Macedonian Tempi valley\u00a0is characterized by thick vegetation.The vegetation that grows consists mainly of large plane trees, willows, lindens and elms trees.<\/p>

In the Macedonian Tempi valley, the\u00a0Richeios River,\u00a0one of the oldest rivers in Greece, has been flowing for centuries. The beginning of the river is in\u00a0Lake Volvi<\/a>\u00a0and it ends in the waters of the Gulf of Strimonikos.<\/p>

You can find the castle of Rentina, the Artemisio, as well as the church of Agia Marina, which is near the modern town of Rentina.<\/p>
