Finding opportunities for active holidays in Asprovalta, known for its family holidays, is not difficult at all.

The best hiking and cycling trails

All you have to do is turn your gaze to the nearby mountains and valleys and a whole host of sights will appear that you can tour on foot or by bike.

Some of the best hiking and biking trails you can find in the Asprovalta area are the Macedonian Tempis and Mount Kerdyllia.

Macedonian Tempi proves to be a natural resort, with a wide variety of plant and animal species. The presence of about 90 species of birds, which you can see during the hike, had secured for the Macedonian Tempi the status of “Important Bird Area”. Among other species, you can observe magpies, robins, owls and hawks.

As you follow the hiking trails, you are sure to recognize a variety of trees, among which elms, ash and willows dominate. There are also various shrubs and interesting climbing plants (such as ivy).

Mount Kerdyllia assumes the dominant position above Asprovalta, offering excellent panoramic views of the resort areas and the Strymonikos Gulf. As your hiking instinct takes you to various spots of this natural gem, you’ll discover springs, brooks and other natural creations concealed with fir, beech and pine trees.

The monastery of Agios Georgios, characterized by Byzantine style, is another remarkable attraction waiting for hikers and cyclists to discover. Nearby there is a scout shelter for those in need of rest; use of the shelter is completely free of charge.

A number of exciting cycling routes are available around Asprovalta, some of which start and end in the centres of the resort areas. You can make your choice in terms of distance and difficulty levels, but most of them are around 50 kilometres long. The ascents and descents range, in general, between 300 and 700 metres above sea level, and most trails slope towards the settlement of Olympiada, to the south of Asprovalta.

In addition to hiking and cycling, there are also Enduro motorbike trails around Mount Kerdyllia.
